As a teenager, I was the yard care master. As the only son and grandson in my family, I managed lawns, shrubs, and trees for most of my family and half the block. It wasn't summer unless my entire life was stained with grass, and I learned to love music when listening to my bright red My First Sony cassette Walkman and the tapes I'd make from albums from the library.
Then, I got real summer jobs in college. And now, I'm an urban dweller, and don't even own a lawnmower, let alone a hedge trimmer, edger, weed whacker, and the like. But someday, I'll have a garage, and a yard to care for, and a whole pegboard full of powered lawn care tools.
Although, from the looks of it, that whole pegboard/garage-full thing is outdated, and you can get by spending way less on lawn and garden equipment.
Whether you're looking to replace outdated equipment, or simply needed to start from scratch, the price for even two or three items can add up.
That's why I'm digging on the ECHO Pro Attachment Series. The multi-tool, one battery model has been an enourmous success in the woodwork/power tool arena, and it's awesome to see that approach applied to lawn and garden tools. The ECHO PAS features a single power source (which comes in a variety of strengths) to which you can attach multiple heads to accomplish all sorts of yardwork.
A single, gas powered 25.4 cc 2-stroke engine can become any of these tools...
- Curved shaft trimmer
- Straght shaft trimmer
- Rapid-loader trimmer
- Pro-torque trimmer
- Curved shaft edger
- Straight shaft edger
- Hedge trimmer
- 180˚ articulating hedge trimmer
- as well as a paddle and sweeper head that actually CLEAN your grass and soil.
Pretty cool, no? The Home Depot exclusively carries the new ECHO PAS line. This could be a great option if you're looking to replace/acquire a bunch of yard care tools, but don't want to spend a fortune building up a library of individual tools. It also has a solid five-year warranty, which should cover a lot of the heavy use outdoor tools like these go through.
