You’ve Been Using Your Laundry Basket All Wrong — Here’s The Better Way

The hardest part of laundry is never actually the washing. It’s the little moments like loading and unloading the washing machine, sorting the laundry, that make it a real chore. And one of the biggest offenders is unloading the dryer. Having to bend over, grabbing armfuls of clothes awkwardly, and dropping socks, can all leave you with aches and pains, especially if your back is already sore. It’s such a small task, but the movement is awkward. Thankfully, we have a hack for that.

Why Unloading The Dryer Feels So Tiring

Most of us unload the dryer the same way we always have because that’s how we learned. But bending into a deep drum over and over strains your back and shoulders, especially when the load is heavy or still a bit wet. Towels, jeans, or blankets make it worse. So, it’s totally normal to look for an easier option. Laundry should not leave you sore, especially when there’s a simple change that makes the job easier.

Here’s the hack that changes everything. Take an empty laundry basket and place it directly inside the dryer drum. Then gently tilt or rotate the drum of the dryer so the basket rolls to the bottom and the clean laundry falls straight into the basket. No scooping. No bending. No chasing runaway socks. Everything lands where it belongs in one move. It feels almost silly how easy it is, but that’s what makes it a great hack.

This works best with a sturdy basket that fits comfortably inside the dryer opening. Plastic baskets with smooth edges are ideal. If your dryer has a small opening, you can still angle the basket inside, although you might have to shift it inside the drum carefully. It’s a great way to spend less time reaching and bending. Even if only most of the load falls in cleanly, you’ve already saved time and energy.
