New Ways You Can Use Plastic Wrap Around Your Home
Plastic wrap is one of those kitchen items you probably already have, but might not be using to its full potential. Beyond wrapping food, plastic wrap can be surprisingly useful for solving small everyday problems around the house. It’s quick, it’s cheap, and it can make life a little easier in ways you might not expect, so here are a few smart and simple ways to put that roll of plastic wrap to work.
Reduce Mixer Messes
If you’ve ever used an electric mixer, you know that dry ingredients tend to puff out of the bowl and coat everything nearby while wet ingredients risk splattering if your bowl isn’t bit enough.
A simple fix is to stretch a layer of plastic wrap over the top of the bowl before mixing (but don’t forget to cut a small slit in the center for the mixer beaters to pass through). This top layer helps keep ingredients from flying out and creating a mess on your counters and clothes. It makes cleanup easier and keeps your kitchen much tidier.
Protect Your Phone
Recipes on your phone are super convenient until your hands are covered in oil, raw meat, or dough. Instead of worrying about over-washing your phone or wiping down your phone every few minutes, just wrap it in a layer of plastic wrap before you start cooking.
The screen will still respond to your touch, but the wrap will protect it from sticky hands, splashes, and spills. Once you’re finished cooking, just peel off the wrap and toss it.
Open a Stubborn Jar
A tight jar lid can be frustrating, especially when your hands just can’t get a good grip, but did you know that plastic wrap can help?
Tear off a small piece and place it over the lid before twisting. The wrap adds just enough friction between your hand and the smooth surface of the lid to help it turn more easily and pop right open!
Cover Your Drink
Want to enjoy spending time outdoors without unwanted guests, like bees or flies, diving straight into your drink? Stretching plastic wrap over the top of your glass or cup helps solve that problem immediately.
Poke a small hole in the top for a straw and you’ve got an easy lid that keeps bugs out. It’s also great for kids’ cups or for bringing a drink along in the car without worrying about spills (though you might want to reinforce it with some tape for that).
