The Gravity Stool is an incredibly unique project by Jólan van der Wiel. The stool, which looks like it was formed by some sort of volcanic eruption, is actually created using electromagnets and a specialized plastic fluid mixed with metal filings.
It works like this:
After the magnets draw the fluid out of the dish it is cured for half an hour, and voilà! A stool is born.
Interestingly enough, no two stools are alike. “The positioning of the magnetic fields in the machine, opposing each other, has largely determined the final shape of the Gravity Stool,” says Jólan van der Wiel.
