A Lightbulb Version of Newton’s Cradle
Newton’s cradle (otherwise known as that swinging, hanging ball thing that people put on their desks and kids play with at the novelty gift store at the mall) demonstrates Newton’s third law of motion – “when two bodies interact by exerting force on each other, these forces are equal in magnitude, but opposite in direction.” Art student Yasutoki Kariya’s Asobi, an entry in Mitsubishi Chemical’s Junior Designer Awards, pays homage to the desktop toy by creating a kinectic, lighted sculpture…a lightbulb Newton’s cradle, or as Johnny at Spoon & Tamago aptly calls it “Edison’s Cradle.”
