The Best Affordable Irish Whiskey: 5 Bottles to Try Under $30

created at: 03/13/2014

Do me a favor this St. Patrick's Day: skip the green beer. Please. But, while you're not drinking that silliness, do try some Irish Whiskey. Often overlook by bourbon and Scotch drinkers, the Irish whiskey tradition is as old as it is varied. In fact, they kinda invented it.

The New Briefcase: 7 Stylish, Affordable Options for Every Type of Career

created at: 03/15/2013

There was a time when the professional man had but one look, and when he was dressed for work, things were clear. Along with the suit and topcoat, there was the standard briefcase - the hard, angular, leather box, with bright, shiny metallic accents.

Now, with the traditional office dissolving and the 9-5 work week being constantly reimagined, it's time for a new briefcase: one that will still look professional, just not like Gordon Gekko.

Are There Any Good Sources for Affordable Selvedge or Raw Denim Jeans?

created at: 02/19/2013

Though the quality and integrity of handmade selvedge jeans made of raw denim is apparent to anyone who actually owns a pair, their steep initial investment price can hold many of us back. Including...me. I've got my eyes on a few different styles from a variety of makers, but that initial $250-350 can be

Tip of the Day: Put Your Smartphone in the Sink to Amplify It While Taking a Shower

created at: 02/28/2012

I have all kinds of audio equipment: stereos, recievers, speakers, iPod docks, headphones, car inputs. All of it. I love music. But at least 50% I'm listening to the news or podcasts on my phone, I'm using the built-in speakers. Those tiny 1/8" drivers that aren't much bigger than those found in earbuds with none of the being-in-your-skull benefits.

And the number one place it happens? In the bathroom, while getting clean, shaving, etc.

Shopping Men's Clothing at Target: What to Buy, What to Avoid

If I haven't gone on record before, allow me to do so now. I love Primer. Andrew and company are dedicated to exploring what it's like to be a guy in the twenty-first century, avoiding both the nastiness of men's magazines and old-timey stereotypes of lots of men's motivational content. They take the same approach that I attempt with ManMade, focusing on style and fashion, health, generally, being a good guy.

DIY Idea: Make a Bicycle Valve Key Organizer

I know this sounds like a cheesy setup for a blog post, and it's way too coincidental, but I assure you, it's true: last night, I popped a tube on my bike, cutting my intended 65 mile ride into a short 7.5. I have a spare tube, tire wrenches, and pump with me at all times, which I thought I knew how to use. Turns out, I do not. It was a long walk to the bike shop. (Thankfully, I learned they have classes on how to fix a flat every Thursday at 7p. Guess where I'll be this week.)

9 Green Style Essentials for Guys this Fall

created at: 11/11/2010

At ManMade, we've always argued that the DIY approach should extend into all areas of our life, including what we wear. Several well chosen, long-lasting pieces can be transformed into a multitude of appropriate looks, and will always beat a preassembled, off-the-rack deal.

And, as the seasons change, "fall is now upon us, and with winter around the corner, we’re bundling up and breaking out the cold-weather gear. Fortunately, with the recent resurgence of high-quality heritage menswear, there’s never been a better time to invest in classic frost-battling essentials that are built to last. From warm woolen knits to sheltering coats, we’ve rounded up our picks for sustainable garments that will help you withstand the worst that fall—and winter—have to offer. So suit up, boot up, and hit the jump for the greatest green gear to weather the cooler months to come."

The Value of a Dollar: Photos of What $1.00 Can Get You

created at: 10/12/2010Photographer and former chef Jonathan Blaustein visited a certain, very famous fast food chain during the recent economic downturn. "'On one menu they had a cheeseburger for a dollar,' he said. What caught his eye, though, was another menu, which featured a double cheeseburger for the same price. That additional piece of meat, and the extra slice of cheese, somehow didn’t change the price."

And so began The Value of a Dollar, his 2008 series of photographs of food bought for a single $1.00 bill.
