"Phrenology of a Gentleman" and Other Vintage-Inspired Manly Posters and T-Shirts by Maiden Voyage

A ManMade Twitter follower just sent me a link to this great Etsy shop, Maiden Voyage, who sell tongue-in-cheek graphic illustrations inspired by humorously outdated notions of manly things.

The team describes their brand,

The term "maiden voyage" conjures up images of massive floating zeppelins, prop driven planes and towering ships embarking on their initial journeys. The Basic Principles of Design: An Introduction

Art and inspiration blog Fuel Your Creativity argues,

For the masses, the internet is both a valuable resource, and possibly the source of a design epidemic. People have flooded the internet looking for design content, and while you might not need to learn the basics before attempting a stellar gradient in Photoshop, there will come a point where this style is left behind and a new style reaches popularity. The fact is, the fundamentals of design will never change. They are the glue that holds the design industry together and to reach success, we need to learn these from the very beginning.

And with that, they offer a minimalist introduction to those basic fundamentals: The Lost Principles of Design

10 Famous Filmmakers and Their Favorite Typefaces

created at: 09/17/2012

The notion of "auteur theory" maintains that the film should be the result of the director's creative vision, and that the final film should represent a voice "distinct enough to shine through all kinds of studio interference and through the collective process."

The auteur touches everything from the set and costume design to the music and, among the best (or most obsessive?), the typefaces used in the title sequence.
